It’s the final term of ninth grade, and Malin and Manda are starting to outgrow the playground they’ve always hung out in — though there’s still space for them in the sandbox. Together and apart, they search for what comes next. But how far can you really get on a bike?
Sure, it hurts when buds burst into bloom — but can’t growing up still be fun? Does growing up always mean growing apart? And what’s a reasonable response to a dick pic?
In this warm, tender play about a trembling teenage spring — when everything is happening while you’re still waiting for something to happen — Manda and Malin learn from each other and from life.
Based on Ellen Strömberg’s novel Vi ska ju bara cykla förbi (Eng. We’re Just Passing Through on Our Bikes), which won the 2022 August Prize for Best Children’s and Young Adult Book.
Malin and Manda cycled into my life in the spring of 2020, in a story that was actually meant to be about an old lady — but they refused to let go. When Ida and ÅST reached out, I was thrilled – and also nervous. But that nervousness disappeared once we got to work.

Ellen and I wanted to create an intimate drama, a character-driven play, based on her novel Vi ska ju bara cykla förbi. On stage, we meet best friends Manda and Malin in their soul-crushingly boring playground, as they navigate love, insecurity, friendship, and assault — always waiting for something, anything, to happen.
