A dance theatre performance in which everyday objects are given life.
Do you have a lamp that seems to have a mind of its own? An armchair you never want to get up from? Or a phone that demands just too much of your attention?
We surround ourselves with things: duvet covers, coffee cups, chairs, lamps, computers and phones. They help us, they comfort us and make everyday life easier. But they can also irritate us, steer us and even try to manipulate us. We use our things, but how much do they really influence us?
In Elohuone, everyday objects come to life. Dancers and singers give them bodies and personalities. A lamp with a faulty connection flickers stubbornly at someone trying to read. A soft rug invites you to lie down. A smartphone offers the whole world, yet may still leave its user feeling empty.
Elohuone moves playfully between dance, theatre and song as it explores our relationship with the things around us. Grus Grus Teatteri created the performance specifically for Café Tiljan at Åbo Svenska Teater. The café becomes part of the experience as it transforms into a living room.

The choreography draws on Bruno Latour’s actor-network theory, which examines how humans and objects alike shape what happens around us.

At Café Tiljan on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, from 6:30 to 8 pm. Dramaturg Marja Kangas will open the door to the world of Elohuone.
Grus Grus Theater is a nomadic theater whos performances appear in surprising formats and unexpected places. We have produced shows in locations such as the Finnkino Kinopalatsi cinema, Turku Castle, a shopping center, a Föli city bus, a parking garage, and even in a kitchen. For the audience this opens up the possibility to experience familiar and everyday places in a new light. For the art this means that elements of the chosen environment become an integral part of the work. Every location has its own history, architecture, visual elements, scents and soundscapes.
